Don’t miss the Curse of the Haunted Curds – the Brewer’s Revenge – on Thursday (29 October 2015) at Deschutes Brewery Portland Public House (210 NW 11th).
From 11 AM to 8 PM visitors to the pub can order a special poutine sampler plate ($10 donation) featuring poutines from five chefs from area pubs (Deschutes, Fat Heads, Portland Brewing, 10 Barrel, Rogue). Each poutine features a gravy made with one of their beers, and event sponsor Face Rock Creamery‘s Vampire Slayer garlic-cheddar curds.
At 6 PM a judging panel including cheesemonger Steve Jones will decide on a winner. The “People’s Choice Award” will also be presented to the chef who received the most votes from diners who ordered the poutine sampler throughout the day.

Denizens of Westmoreland are fortunate to have several quintessential neighborhood bars within stumbling distance of each other – namely The Limelight, the Cosmo Lounge, and The Yukon. But only one of them [at this moment] offers poutine: Kay’s Bar.
I’m usually skeptical of alternative poutines, but this one looks pretty good – miso gravy!
Poutine [dot] Me reports:
If you’re as big of a fan of poutine as I am, then you are familiar with le festival de la poutine that takes place every year in Drummondville, Quebec. Now folks in Vancouver, BC are doing their own take on it with the Festival de la Poutine de Vancouver.
The poutine festival is taking place on November 19 at Hellenic Community Centre at 4500 Arbutus St in Vancouver. The event includes a poutine crawl, where you get to try various poutine from Vancouver poutineries, poutine cook-off, all you can eat poutine (yum!) and even some live music.
Make way for more burgers, folks: The Vancouver, BC-based chain Vera’s Burger Shack, which operates 16 locations in BC (and one in Ottawa), has announced plans to open its first two U.S. expansion locations right here in Portland — with one slated for the Pearl District, providing direct competition to red-hot burger chain Little Big Burger.
The report indicates Vera’s plans to open the first of the new Portland branches in the Fall.
So stay tuned – a Fall review is forthcoming!
Now go eat some poutine!
